The Anointing of the Sick—formerly known as ‘Last Rites’—is no longer considered a sacrament only for those at the point of death. Instead, this healing sacrament is for all those who are facing major surgery, chronic illness, or the weakness that comes with age. A communal celebration of the sacrament is celebrated two to three times a year. You may also contact the Parish Office to schedule an appointment. Contact information is below.
Whenever possible, the sacrament should not be delayed until the person is in imminent danger of death. We strongly encourage you to plan ahead especially if you're planning to have surgery or approaching a troubling diagnosis.
When the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is given, the hoped-for effect is that, if it be God's will the person be physically healed of illness. But even if there is no physical healing, the primary effect of the Sacrament is a spiritual healing by which the sick person receives the Holy Spirit's gift of peace and courage to deal with the difficulties that accompany serious illness or the frailty of old age.
