DUE TO COVID CENTERING PRAYER HAS BEEN PUT ON HOLD UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
Centering Prayer is a method of silent prayer that prepares us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer, prayer in which we experience God's presence within us, closer than breathing, closer than thinking, closer than consciousness itself. This method of prayer is both a relationship with God and a discipline to foster that relationship. Centering Prayer does not replace other forms of prayer but adds depth of meaning to all prayer and facilitates the movement from more active modes of prayer — verbal, mental or affective prayer — into a receptive prayer of resting in God. Centering Prayer emphasizes prayer as a personal relationship with God and as a movement beyond conversation with Jesus to communion with Him. The OLG Centering Prayer Group meets every second Saturday of the month at 10:30 A.M. in the Juan Diego Room. Usually 6 to 10 people, both Catholic and Protestant, gather for any one session. We begin with a prayer, listen to Father Keating tapes, discuss scripture, and do a 20-minute sit in the church. DVDs are available to help you learn how to perform Centering Prayer as well as all of us to assist you.
People are welcome to join anytime. No prior experience is needed – just a heart open to the Lord. The group also takes a yearly trip to The Abbey in Lafayette, Oregon to pray with the Cistercian monks. For additional information, please contact Candy Miller at [email protected]
